Ceremony

Directed by Australian surf filmmaker Kai Neville and featuring professional free surfer Craig Anderson, Ceremony was composed by Brendan under the nom de plume Orkheomai.

The score features the unmistakable violin of Australian Chamber Orchestra Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, recorded late one evening in his wonderful beachside studio. Brendan also recorded guitarist, composer and producer Cameron Deyell, a long-time friend and collaborator and a member of Liars. Much of the collaboration happened remotely, thanks to the wonders of technology. Accompanying the guitar and violin, Brendan played various pianos and electroacoustic keyboards, sampled sounds from around the studio, and tinkered with computers and sequencers. The score was lovingly mixed by Richard Belkner at Free Energy Device Studios, while Declan Diacono at Klang Studios worked with Brendan on the sound design and final film mix.

It was quite a production for an experimental film, but Brendan had clear sonic ideas from the moment he saw the first edit and wanted to express them fully. It was worth bringing together the music and sound crew for this special project.
