Breath

Breath was the second in a series of commissions Brendan worked on for the Zephyr String Quartet involving explorations of electronic abstractions of String Quartet Music. This work culminated in a major work with Australian Dance Theatre, The Beginning of Nature. In this case, the piece was performed for a concert being recorded live by ABC Classic FM. Brendan performed these sonic abstractions live on stage, with the Quartet obscured to the audience by thin paper screens. This work serves as a foundation to work Brendan continues today in exploring electronic and electro acoustic interventions of orchestral or acoustic instruments. All of the sounds produced were being produced in real time, with Brendan having built controls (faders, buttons, hang gesture sensors) to perform the sonic changes to the strings. Some sounds were applied to all instruments at once, while others are made on individual instruments.
